Description
Animal Meat Meal
Animal meat meal is a nutritional supplement produced from unused parts of warm-blooded animals slaughtered in abattoirs. These parts include the heart, liver, lungs, stomach, and other tissues.
Depending on its source and level of purity, meat meal contains 50–60% protein. Impurities such as bone, horn, hair, hooves, or blood may be present, which can reduce total and digestible protein content.
Meat meal is particularly rich in lysine, an essential amino acid. Maintaining the quality of meat meal during processing and storage is critical, as lysine is sensitive to heat.
The recommended inclusion rate of meat meal in poultry feed varies based on the type of bird and its nutritional requirements. Typically, meat meal can make up 5–10% of broiler diets and 10–15% of layer diets.
Meat meal provides high-quality protein and serves as a good source of healthy fats in the feed. When combined with other high-protein ingredients, it contributes to the production of healthier eggs with strong, nutritious yolks, and supports overall poultry performance.
